2008 Season - Its on again
It's on again!!
This year instead of trying to win 1 championship we are going for FOUR!
The Hartwell period 6, Over 600 Novice , Interclub and the State Championships. All this should se a total of 59 races!!!! I'm not sure if it has even been done before!
I know it always seems to be full of dramas preparing for each race but this was the most challenging of them all.......I almost tossed it in!! 6 weeks of constant engine problems, 3 days wasted at the track and fitting the head back to the engine the evening prior to Friday practice to run a new engine in the State Championships without any tuning or Dyno time at all!
Not to mention the financial burden of developing a new motor, with no sponsor in sight, after breaking the crankshaft during the final round.
But we got there.
Friday was spent sorting out the bugs of a major rebuild. Then saturday running missing the first race due to a squished fuel line!!!!
Then we got a break! Thanks to Megacycle, who had a Dyno at the track. (and a few too many beers!) They agreed to give it a run on the Dyno to 'see what she does'. A very nervous thing to stand next to a barely Run-in engine that I built, running up to 13,500 RPM in a confined space.
It was awesome, the readout gave me the information to get the carbies heading in the right direction and maybe another 20 horsepower.
Sunday was 2 races and coming away from the weekend with 3rd place overall. Bugga! My first non 1st placing.
A great result considering the bike is 10 years older than any other bike in the field and 13 years older than the winner.
The winner was an ex WORLD Superbike factory Suzuki with about a million dollars worth of development and cost the owner over $140,000 and an ex superbike 'A' grade rider aboard.
It was awesome to line up next to it and win the start each time, I managed to beat it to the first 2 corners. But it soon passed and disappeared into the distance.
Next race is at Broadford again in 2 weeks 23rd & 24th Feb and the first round of the Hartwell series.
Entry is free.
Cheers!
